Women's Health

Many women experience pelvic health problems at some point in their lives, yet far too many continue to live with symptoms because they believe they are “normal,” are unaware that effective treatment is available, or feel embarrassed to seek help.

The good news is that many pelvic floor conditions can be successfully treated with specialist physiotherapy, helping you regain confidence, comfort, and control.

Laura provides confidential, evidence-based assessment and treatment for a wide range of women’s health conditions in a supportive and understanding environment.

Conditions We Treat

Women’s Health Physiotherapy can help with:

  • Stress urinary incontinence (leaking when coughing, sneezing, laughing or exercising)
  • Urinary urgency and frequency
  • Bladder weakness
  • Overactive bladder
  • Pelvic organ prolapse
  • Pelvic or vaginal pain
  • Pelvic floor weakness
  • Pregnancy and postnatal pelvic floor concerns
  • Abdominal muscle separation (Diastasis Recti)
  • Pain during intercourse
  • Scar pain following childbirth or surgery

If you’re unsure whether physiotherapy is right for you, Laura is happy to discuss your symptoms and advise whether treatment may help.

What to Expect at Your First Appointment

Your initial consultation lasts approximately one hour and begins with a detailed and confidential discussion about your symptoms, medical history, pregnancy or birth history (where appropriate), lifestyle, and personal goals.

Laura understands that discussing pelvic health can feel sensitive. She provides a relaxed, supportive environment where you can speak openly and ask questions without judgement.

Following your consultation, a physical assessment will be carried out. This usually includes an assessment of your posture, breathing pattern, abdominal muscles, and pelvis.

Where appropriate, you may also be offered an internal vaginal examination. This is considered the gold standard assessment for evaluating:

  • Pelvic floor muscle strength
  • Muscle tone and coordination
  • Pelvic floor endurance
  • Pelvic organ prolapse
  • Scar tissue following childbirth or surgery
  • Areas of pain or muscle tension

An internal examination is always fully explained beforehand, performed only with your informed consent, and you are free to decline at any stage.

Treatment Options

Your treatment plan will be tailored to your individual needs and may include:

  • Personalised pelvic floor muscle training
  • Individual exercise prescription
  • Pilates-based core and pelvic stability exercises
  • Bladder retraining programmes
  • Fluid and lifestyle advice
  • Education on pelvic floor training devices and muscle stimulation where appropriate
  • Internal manual therapy, including trigger point release and scar tissue mobilisation
  • Advice on returning safely to exercise and everyday activities
  • Ongoing education and self-management strategies

Supporting Your Recovery

Once your pelvic floor assessment is complete, Laura will develop an individualised treatment programme designed specifically for you.

You’ll leave your appointment with a clear understanding of your condition, practical advice, and exercises to begin immediately. The aim is not only to improve your symptoms but also to give you the confidence and knowledge to manage your pelvic health for the future.

Compassionate, Confidential Care

At Fit Bumps and Mums, we are passionate about helping women feel confident discussing pelvic health. Every appointment is completely confidential, and we recognise the sensitive nature of these conditions.

Whether you’ve been living with symptoms for years or have only recently noticed changes, you don’t have to manage them alone. Effective treatment is available, and many women experience significant improvements in their symptoms and quality of life through specialist physiotherapy.
